Betsy Hamm
Welcome to Loud and Lifted, Patti and Kathy. Thank you so much for being here.

00:07.27
Patty & Kathy
Thank you Happy to be here. Love it.

00:09.51
Betsy Hamm
Yes.

00:09.79
Patty & Kathy
Thanks, Bethy.

00:11.35
Betsy Hamm
Awesome. I feel left out that I'm not in the same room with you guys, so I apologize. I got to work on my setup that I could have three people in the same room, so we'll do that maybe when you guys come back. But I'm happy to be here today with you guys and wanted to start off by first if you guys could sort of introduce yourself um and and talk about your background and why you two are here together.

00:32.48
Patty & Kathy
Well, that's a, that's a lot, but I'm Kathy.

00:34.28
Betsy Hamm
Right. Keep it brief. Keep it brief. Highlight reel.

00:37.52
Patty & Kathy
That's right. I'm Kathy Anderson Martin. And I worked, graduated from Penn state and worked many years in corporate, the corporate world, sales, sales manager, national account manager.

00:48.26
Patty & Kathy
And I know Patty's going to say, oh, no, she's going to tell a heart story, but I am. But within 10 days of 2000, my husband and I were waiting to adopt. I found out I had a heart condition I never knew I had. We got the call to adopt our daughter, and then she had the same heart condition. That all happened within 10 days. And I share that because that blew up all my plans, got me into a second career in the nonprofit world.

01:09.28
Patty & Kathy
And that's what I've been doing since we adopted our second daughter thereafter. And a lot of similarities between the corporate world, nonprofit, a lot of pivots and changes, and even still today doing a lot of those changes. so That's little bit my background and, uh, you know, where I am professionally and personally being a wife and mom and all those things certainly changes a lot of things as well.

01:29.93
Patty & Kathy
So I told the heart story, Patty, which she's always like, is you telling that again?

01:33.20
Betsy Hamm
thank

01:34.15
Patty & Kathy
I do. What did I say to you last night? I said, you have a heart of gold. Yeah. so

01:39.93
Betsy Hamm
Oh, that's very nice.

01:39.96
Patty & Kathy
that is true. The Teflon patch on it. True story. Go ahead.

01:44.17
Betsy Hamm
okay. I like that. Hey, that's recorded. So now everybody knows that you definitely said that. So you have proof.

01:48.34
Patty & Kathy
Yeah. Awesome. Hi Betsy, Patty Sibak here, as you know, Fellowship Finsburg University grad. I attended University of Women's Athletic Scholarship, which really helped me get my college education.

01:57.05
Betsy Hamm
Yay.

02:02.88
Patty & Kathy
Spent most of my professional career in health and wellness, pharmaceutical sales, more so diving into women's health. In 2020, I pivoted full time into our personal training studios.

02:17.70
Patty & Kathy
which are called precision training concepts where we do one-on-one personal training as well as corporate wellness and fitness. Opened up a membership-based facility when we moved up to Perry County, a very underserved area.

02:30.30
Patty & Kathy
And we just feel, my husband and I feel as though we have a gift of fitness. You know, it came easily to us, doesn't come easily to everybody. And we want to give back as much as we can.

02:41.24
Patty & Kathy
the way that the two of us got together was Kathy, do you want to share that story? Well, we actually, of course she will. Yes, I will absolutely share that story.

02:48.50
Betsy Hamm
Of course she does!

02:50.31
Patty & Kathy
And I'll even give her a shout out with this, but, um, we've been friends for while, but when I was working at the Salvation Army Harrisburg, we met. And, um, so it was more than a decade ago or so, 15 years ago or so.

03:01.98
Patty & Kathy
And, um, you know, became friends. We're very different, have a lot of differences, a lot of commonalities as well. But a few years ago, five or six years ago, Patty, there was a lot more of me than there is right now. And Patty said to me, um, you have to Kathy invest in your health.

03:18.58
Patty & Kathy
And while I was always that person who went on the new year's diet, lost weight, and then regained that plus 10 more pounds by Christmas. And you're like, how'd I gain 70 pounds? Um, You know, I realized I needed to make, when Patty said that, you have to invest, but it is an investment in your health.

03:34.23
Patty & Kathy
And then that affects every other part of your life. So that really, I've transformed my health and I give her credit. And now, like you say, it's on tape for helping me make that information.

03:43.55
Betsy Hamm
ah

03:45.08
Patty & Kathy
Now the only thing big on her is her personality. oh and i'll take that

03:48.13
Betsy Hamm
Right. Nice.

03:49.71
Patty & Kathy
I don't know. you all these comp We're not used to complimenting each other like this.

03:52.92
Betsy Hamm
I know. and again, this is recorded.

03:54.19
Patty & Kathy
I know.

03:55.22
Betsy Hamm
So like you have proof that you've said these nice things.

03:56.02
Patty & Kathy
know. It goes on. It goes on forever. Right. And the way that we're together, Betsy, is Kathy already said it. We're very different. We're very different people. are Our interests are different, but there are some definite common threads that we found that we live our lives on.

04:13.41
Patty & Kathy
And from that, we've really created a platform that we feel as though we've been able to educate other women, other men as well. Right. But on that.

04:21.50
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

04:23.16
Patty & Kathy
And so many women, and I think we fought, fell into this maybe at some point, feel like they need to be all things to all people, as opposed to being who they are and authentic with who they are.

04:34.65
Patty & Kathy
Right. So, right. Um, I, we just spoke earlier before we went on broadcast here that sometimes you set yourself up for unrealistic expectations and you feel as though you're going to be a failure and everything, because you can't give that hundred percent to all those avenues in your life. And, and because of that, you know, what,

04:54.65
Patty & Kathy
we reiterate is that authenticity, you need to be authentic with yourself.

05:00.25
Betsy Hamm
And so let's dig into that a little bit. So when you say the word authentic, we throw that around a lot, right? Like what does that actually mean and and how does somebody show up being their authentic selves?

05:09.95
Patty & Kathy
Well, it means, and if you look up the definition, it means being true to oneself, your values and personality. And that is you know, while it sounds simple and we could probably all pull that definition off the cuff,

05:22.98
Patty & Kathy
It's more difficult to live in practice when we're trying to be all things to all people. However, yes, however, there's a big but to this. And I use the word respect, you still need to be respectful to others.

05:35.81
Betsy Hamm
Right.

05:38.35
Patty & Kathy
And you can be as well as being authentic to Right. So we've presented and we share about the importance of being and living authentically, but that also doesn't, that doesn't mean you cancel out other people and say, I'm just going to do this to heck with everyone else.

05:53.40
Patty & Kathy
You know, um ah like, yo, I'm just going leave my family and my kids, whatever, because I want to go, you know, Rome, South America, you still have responsibility and there are still things.

05:53.73
Betsy Hamm
right

06:04.37
Patty & Kathy
And we want to communicate that because we believe ah strongly in that. It's not a license. Right.

06:10.52
Betsy Hamm
Right. Absolutely. And then how do you, you know, if if someone's struggling with being authentic and and it's sort of, you know people talk about balance, especially with women, which I hate because we're not balancing anything we're juggling. So sometimes you have to prioritize work and sometimes it's your kids and, you know, everything's just kind of up in the air at times and you're just trying to get things done. so How do you go through that and be authentic and have that balance of respect? Because get That would be amazing to say, you know what?

06:34.12
Betsy Hamm
I'm good. I'm just going to go a two-week vacation, see everybody. yeah I'll be back.

06:37.39
Patty & Kathy
Right.

06:37.90
Betsy Hamm
So you know how how do you give advice on on being able to do that and and be productive, essentially?

06:45.02
Patty & Kathy
Well, I think some of it when we present and share, we use our real lives and as examples, you know I think so.

06:49.46
Betsy Hamm
community

06:50.66
Patty & Kathy
I'm one of those people, I don't do well with 20 page manuals or 50 page manuals. I like to hear other people's stories and how that and what's relatable. So we share a lot of that. We found that with ourselves.

07:01.98
Patty & Kathy
There are certain things, you know, when I was, my kids were a marching band, I was like, what is the least I can do to put a check mark beside my name to count that I didn't And I say that because I just realized I felt like I needed to contribute, which I did, but I don't, that's not my kind of thing. And they're different things.

07:19.43
Patty & Kathy
When my kids were little, I kind of backed away from the workforce, um, work part time a little to be with them. Um, in my case, that's okay. That, that was my choice. It's not everyone's choice, but to give myself freedom and others, that's my choice. And you've had other different, I have, I mean,

07:36.01
Patty & Kathy
where I was at 40 was nowhere near where I thought I was going to be at 40 or even 45 because she's now five. I'm staying at that age.

07:44.51
Betsy Hamm
42. Yeah. Hmm. Hmm.

07:46.46
Patty & Kathy
I was wondering where she was going with that.

07:48.41
Betsy Hamm
yeah

07:48.71
Patty & Kathy
But where I thought I was going to be in life, I i felt like a big fat failure because I was trying to juggle a career and trying to juggle raising kids and being a perfect neighbor and a perfect wife and perfect employee. And none of those cups were filled to the rim on, you know, I felt like a constant failure.

08:09.93
Patty & Kathy
You know, I had a failed marriage and, you know, that's that's tough. That's tough. So to answer your question, know, how do you deal with that? You have to put what's most important at that stage in your life first.

08:23.26
Patty & Kathy
And I think what found is where we are in life now, because we've had so many years of corporate life and business ownership,

08:23.40
Betsy Hamm
Right.

08:31.70
Patty & Kathy
you can still, ah use the word pivot, but you can still ah embrace other opportunities. Like we're in our second half. Like you can tell we're not slowing down. Right.

08:42.08
Patty & Kathy
And the word I use frequently is grace.

08:42.34
Betsy Hamm
right

08:45.64
Patty & Kathy
You give yourself grace. You give grace a lot of times to other people, but you have to give grace to yourself. I was way too hard on myself, way too hard on myself.

08:54.02
Betsy Hamm
oh And then how did you get past that?

08:55.40
Patty & Kathy
And

08:56.23
Betsy Hamm
how did you get How did you sort of adjust and be able to sort of take a step back and and realize that you you maybe need to recalibrate certain areas of your life, but to give yourself grace?

09:05.88
Patty & Kathy
For me, i I had to come back to what was most important. And at that point in my life, it was my children. And I had to think, what kind of example am i showing them? You know, were they going to be more impressed over the fact that I have this wonderful career and and so forth? Are they going to be more impressed that I'm i'm with them?

09:24.63
Patty & Kathy
And i can always go back to work. I mean, I'm still work. I had to. i had to as a single mother at one point. But... I just knew that I can always go back to something. like I'll never have that moment with my kids again. And I hear the same way.

09:38.33
Patty & Kathy
And I share that. I say that heart story because I look at that was before my life before and thereafter, because I had a condition that as a doctor said, when you had symptoms, it was too late. So when you realize that any day I could have dropped over, i had a congenital heart defect.

09:52.59
Patty & Kathy
um Every day is that much more precious and um positive and certainly my faith. And I know that's with you as well. You know, there's so many things that we, it's major on the majors, not the minors. And, you know, we all get caught up and stuff, but is that really important at the end of the day?

10:08.16
Betsy Hamm
Right. Oh, I love that.

10:09.18
Patty & Kathy
That's what obsessed with.

10:09.39
Betsy Hamm
That's awesome.

10:10.43
Patty & Kathy
Yeah. So when we speak, you know, we'll have women coming up to us afterwards saying, boy, I really resonate with Kathy. Or then others will be like, boy, buddy, I really resonate with you. I've had the same struggle.

10:21.34
Patty & Kathy
So it's really nice that we have the balance of our life experiences to share with audiences of,

10:24.23
Betsy Hamm
Yes.

10:28.22
Patty & Kathy
Wow, and in asking that same question, how did you survive this? How did you not only survive, but how are you now thriving from it?

10:31.84
Betsy Hamm
Right.

10:35.03
Betsy Hamm
Thriving. Absolutely. No, I love that. and i love the second half, right? That you're saying that now you're thriving in the second half. you guys are not slowing down. I feel like you're both all over the place doing amazing things.

10:43.54
Patty & Kathy
Girl, we haven't even started yet. You know, was thinking the minor on the minors. Before we went on the air here, she's like, fluff your hair.

10:49.24
Betsy Hamm
and

10:50.35
Patty & Kathy
And I'm going, quit fluffing your hair. And she's like, you need to fluff your hair. And I'm like, quit. And then, hey, Betsy. So that's funny.

10:57.36
Betsy Hamm
Betsy's fluffing her hair.

10:58.85
Patty & Kathy
Yeah, you're flopping your ear. Yes. But that's kind of that minor on the minors. And, you know, there might have been a point in our life that that was a, people get hung up on those kind of things. Now to us, that's hilarious. That's our differences in support.

11:10.68
Betsy Hamm
But I think back to, you know, when I first, first especially met you, Kathy, you know, is that the Salvation Army and you would, you'd be, um, emceeing Shoestrut and you were very good at being not very good because it's who you are being authentic. Right.

11:21.80
Betsy Hamm
Like you sit up there, you can make fun of yourself. You could be like, oh, I'm Patti's twin. I could, you know, you like you just were very good about putting yourself out there and laughing at like yourself.

11:27.14
Patty & Kathy
I'm not alike.

11:30.76
Betsy Hamm
And I mean, that's what makes you so relatable is the fact that like, hey, I can.

11:33.62
Patty & Kathy
But where does that come from? It's confidence. You know, you have to have a certain level of confidence, not arrogance, but confidence.

11:37.22
Betsy Hamm
Right.

11:41.04
Betsy Hamm
Yes.

11:41.74
Patty & Kathy
Well, and I think also, you know, when we do this presentation that the first point is authentic, but then the second part is active. And we go into, because I mentioned, Patty helped me change my health. And if you don't have a healthy body, mind, and spirit, it's hard to be authentic because if you're miserable within your own skin, um, physically,

12:02.33
Patty & Kathy
that creates a whole lot of other challenges. So that goes into it, certainly from her background, but I've learned that because we we say, oh, you know that, but it's so important, really.

12:07.22
Betsy Hamm
Very true.

12:13.66
Patty & Kathy
We see it every day.

12:13.92
Betsy Hamm
Let's dig into the active because I think that's so important. And and I know that's a big part of your platform is is being active. So what does that look like? What does that mean? And i mean, you just sort of started to touch on why is that so important?

12:25.07
Patty & Kathy
Well, again, when I, when Patty said invest in your health, I lost 50 pounds and I've kept it off first time ever versus all the yo-yo dieting and so forth. So it's more than just losing weight. When I did that.

12:36.68
Patty & Kathy
I went, I mean, um, I stopped taking medications. I went from pre-diabetic to normal. Um, I don't take, you know, my, everything changed as far as my health and that even changed. Not that I was depressed and so forth, but it changes everything. When you feel good, it feels good to feel good.

12:53.88
Patty & Kathy
And, um, that it's hard to be authentic when you're miserable within your own skin. So that is, that was my change of life. And, you know, because of my health, it changed so many other things.

13:04.03
Patty & Kathy
And we see it every day in our studios, Betsy, where, you know, individuals have spent their lives focusing on other things that mattered or what they perceive mattered most in their lives.

13:04.58
Betsy Hamm
Sure. Right.

13:16.02
Patty & Kathy
We're given one body in this world and you got one chance. It's one car. If you, if you were given the opportunity to own one car in your life, how would you take care of it?

13:26.62
Betsy Hamm
i

13:26.68
Patty & Kathy
Right? and And that's your body. And as Kathy says, yes, it's physical, but we know that physical activity, what we eat really is just a part of your total being. It's how you act, how you sleep, how you treat others, how you perform in your job, how you perform as a parent, a spouse, you know the list goes on and on and on.

13:49.34
Patty & Kathy
And it all starts with how you treat yourself, both from a physical component and from a nutritional component. And from that, we've created Giving Wellness. So because of Patty and the impact and and things that we did just kind of organically, um you know, we created this eight, and people asking me, how'd you do that?

14:00.44
Betsy Hamm
Nice.

14:10.55
Patty & Kathy
How'd you lose weight? What happened? You know, and it's really, it's healthy habits. right There's no magic formula.

14:14.58
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

14:15.62
Patty & Kathy
We're not going to say go take medication or anything else. I want to do what's um good and sustainable.

14:22.04
Betsy Hamm
Sceneable.

14:22.05
Patty & Kathy
sustainable

14:22.60
Betsy Hamm
Yep.

14:23.11
Patty & Kathy
Right. So we created eight ah giving wellness, which is an eight week healthy habits challenge to help others find a kind of focus on those things, whether it's fruits and vegetables, less sugar movement, and all of the things that we've had over 200 people or 200.

14:38.42
Patty & Kathy
We are now promoting it to a corporate environment because companies are fine.

14:42.80
Betsy Hamm
Nice. Sure.

14:44.55
Patty & Kathy
Obviously it's a win-win, right? You have a healthier employee. Uh, it's a healthier employer. you go into the whole, insurance claims, that sort of deal. It's it not only that, but think about the way the workforce is now.

14:57.26
Patty & Kathy
It's very disconnected. we're We're virtual, right? So we have employers coming to us saying, I want my employees to connect better. you have a way for it? Yes, we do. and ah In a friendly challenge with accountability, developing sustainable, healthy habits for them.

15:14.78
Patty & Kathy
And in addition to after an eight-week program where they're able to have these sustainable, eating better, movement, there is an additional give back to a nonprofit of their choice.

15:29.96
Patty & Kathy
Right.

15:30.06
Betsy Hamm
That's awesome.

15:30.20
Patty & Kathy
So, and that's why the chat, um and that's why the name giving wellness to yourself and others.

15:30.86
Betsy Hamm
I love that.

15:36.10
Patty & Kathy
And, you know, it's a win-win all the way around. I um am now spokesmodel. So that is my, yeah.

15:42.04
Betsy Hamm
Whoa, congrats.

15:43.88
Patty & Kathy
I have put myself at the level of being a before and after I'm like 17 magazines before and after or glamorous do and don't with my eyes crossed out.

15:48.43
Betsy Hamm
Nice.

15:53.33
Patty & Kathy
Well, and Betsy going back to what we were saying before, but fitness came really easy to me. Right. And I said, I'm a big believer that everybody's given gifts. That's my gift. I know how to help others get healthier.

16:05.04
Patty & Kathy
She's very empathetic. Kathy's very empathetic to it because it wasn't easy for her.

16:10.58
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

16:10.74
Patty & Kathy
And a lot of people can relate to that. Right. Right. I mean, and yeah.

16:15.24
Betsy Hamm
Oh yeah.

16:16.34
Patty & Kathy
Yeah. I, you know, I, I love to walk and I, walking has become my stress reliever versus wine and cheese on the porch every evening, you know, but I'm trying to, you know, be the giving wellness spoke.

16:22.82
Betsy Hamm
Okay. Yeah.

16:26.51
Betsy Hamm
I mean, I like both, but yeah, it's a balance, right? i Yeah.

16:31.78
Patty & Kathy
Oh, but, but you know, that and being outside and it's amazing.

16:31.87
Betsy Hamm
Moderation.

16:36.61
Patty & Kathy
And I was the first person when I started to say, I'm never going to want vegetables. I'm never going to want. You do. Things change. Your habits change. But you just have to do it Right.

16:46.80
Patty & Kathy
Right. And it's like you said, it's nothing crazy. It's nothing like, nope, I'm out from the beginning.

16:49.98
Betsy Hamm
Right.

16:51.69
Patty & Kathy
Yeah. If you told me you have to go buy this special food. I'm out. Yeah, I quit.

16:56.35
Betsy Hamm
Right. Well, you know, and it's so funny, I've always been into health and and wellness and and being active, but I think, you know, in my twenties, it was more like how I looked right.

16:57.21
Patty & Kathy
That's my life.

17:04.42
Betsy Hamm
Like it was just about like, oh, I need to lose five pounds. I have to wear bathing suit. It was very physical, like that I would be focused on. And then I think just as I got older and realized that was also like a stress reliever and, you know, to go to yoga or go to the gym or go on a run, like made you feel better.

17:15.01
Patty & Kathy
Thank

17:19.57
Betsy Hamm
And now as I get older, like in your 40s and you are like, oh, shit, like I have to care about like lifting weights more and, you know, not getting osteoporosis and eating better and and looking especially at the older generation who has so many health issues. And whether it's high blood pressure or cholesterol, whatever it is, that there's things that we can be doing now to not have to have, you know, this not great lifestyle in the future.

17:41.89
Betsy Hamm
um It's funny how that sort of changes as you get older, at least for me, where it's like my my why and my reasons.

17:45.44
Patty & Kathy
Right.

17:46.69
Betsy Hamm
and But I enjoy it, right? Like to your point, I enjoy working out. It makes me feel better. um but it's just finding what you can do and what's sustainable. Cause I think that's probably one of the biggest things you see. i mean, we're all guilty of it at some point where you get on, whether it's a fad diet or crash diet or some crazy exercise regimen, that's just not sustainable. So it's like finding that, that thing, right. That's sustainable and and know that you might have a bad day or a bad, bad weekend, but it's okay. Like just move on and and get back on track. So

18:18.12
Betsy Hamm
I think we get so focused on being 100% and that's that's not going to happen. You're going to have to balance and you can still have wine and cheese on the porch too, but maybe after your walk.

18:27.83
Patty & Kathy
and And you nailed it too. It's find your why, right? We talk about find your why we do.

18:31.04
Betsy Hamm
Yeah.

18:33.02
Patty & Kathy
And that varies for everyone. And also you also hit on the point where your, your reasons do change over time. Your fitness evolves over your decades. And I think us coming from, you know, we've worked over 40 years in, in, uh, I'm surprised she didn't say she's older, but she is, she's older, but that's beside point. year and a half.

18:55.19
Patty & Kathy
And

18:55.82
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

18:56.24
Patty & Kathy
but it But it does. So what the good news is, it's never too late. It's never too late to have healthier habits. And we talk about exercise. We don't even use the word exercise.

19:07.51
Patty & Kathy
We talk about movement or find the movement that you like and keep it.

19:10.26
Betsy Hamm
sorry

19:11.41
Patty & Kathy
When we go into schools or organizations, we don't teach that to five-year-olds or 70-year-olds. And you know, when we talk about this, what you do as a woman, as a wife, mother, is has a ripple effect on the people around you.

19:25.14
Patty & Kathy
And we talk about that.

19:25.74
Betsy Hamm
Sure. Right.

19:26.54
Patty & Kathy
Setting an example for your kids.

19:27.50
Betsy Hamm
Yep.

19:28.30
Patty & Kathy
We just, my husband and i we went on a cruise last week with my 78 year old mother who was inspired by Brian and Patty. um She'd been overweight my whole life, lost 60 pounds. And she went on the cruise with us, kind of a bucket list thing.

19:40.79
Patty & Kathy
She could not have done that years ago without changing her health.

19:42.56
Betsy Hamm
right

19:44.55
Patty & Kathy
So it's not just a matter of losing weight or looking better.

19:47.44
Betsy Hamm
yep

19:47.48
Patty & Kathy
It's not matter how do you want to live and what kind of example are you being for your kids, not just with health, but all of these other things, confidence, living authentically.

19:56.63
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

19:57.46
Patty & Kathy
You can't expect your daughters to be authentic and and healthy if you're not. You were just was talking yesterday about birthdays, how some people love birthdays and how other people hate birthdays.

20:01.82
Betsy Hamm
Right.

20:07.80
Patty & Kathy
We love birthdays. Because we're not dead. you don't have a birthday, you're dead.

20:11.11
Betsy Hamm
Me too. agree. I totally agree.

20:16.98
Patty & Kathy
right. All right. i guess That's in our presentation. So we just get excited.

20:21.59
Betsy Hamm
I love that. No, I love that.

20:22.56
Patty & Kathy
up you We were so professional up to that point. I know.

20:25.72
Betsy Hamm
No, you you're good.

20:25.91
Patty & Kathy
And I do. I spoke to a group at a recent college and the kids seem disinterested and I'm, you know, 30, 40, 10 years older than they are. And I said, you know, I know you're thinking you're never going to be to be my age, but if you don't, you're dead.

20:42.39
Betsy Hamm
Right.

20:42.39
Patty & Kathy
So plan accordingly. So sorry.

20:44.58
Betsy Hamm
Yep. No, i agree. I'm a big fan of birthdays. I totally agree. Because you're right. The alternative is for them. You're not here.

20:50.53
Patty & Kathy
Yeah. Sorry. Had to get that all for you. All right. All right. might Continue. Yes. Next question.

20:55.78
Betsy Hamm
So no, no, you're good. So just one more thing about being active. So if someone's listening to this and they're like, wow, I really need to get my act together. You know, umm I'm in my forties or fifties or whatever age. What's like, how do you, how do you get started if you just are in a rut and you're not sure how to get the momentum, at least to start headed in the right direction?

21:13.28
Patty & Kathy
If someone is clueless and and doesn't even know where to begin, consult a professional. Consult a credible professional health and wellness. And then don't set these lofty goals. We've had clients come in where, hey, I'm going go a climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

21:29.98
Patty & Kathy
and That's not really a realistic goal to set first. you know So set smaller, attainable goals. And then once you achieve those, go on to the next goal. It may be just, you know what, I'm going to go for a walk after dinner tonight.

21:43.37
Betsy Hamm
yeah Yeah, I love that.

21:44.98
Patty & Kathy
i mean I was just going to say, i mean, my journey, I lost average at losing my weight a half a pound a week.

21:45.05
Betsy Hamm
And it's, I got.

21:53.13
Betsy Hamm
Okay.

21:53.25
Patty & Kathy
That was over, you know, to lose 50 plus pounds. Fun fact, now she has a streak of. Well, the end of, well, soon it'll be three years that I've walked every single day, 10,000 plus steps.

22:07.77
Patty & Kathy
Not didn't miss one.

22:08.15
Betsy Hamm
Oh my gosh.

22:09.78
Patty & Kathy
I know. And I work at that, but little things along the way. I mean, I worked, worked with our team are here and like little goals, like, okay, uh, every morning you seem to eat pretzels for a snack. Why don't you have a piece of fruit instead?

22:22.43
Patty & Kathy
You know, so, and little things, cause if you had told me here's all this plan and again, 20 page plan, I couldn't do it, but I could do one little thing at a time. And then that adds up to big things.

22:33.02
Betsy Hamm
Yep. I love that. It's just like everything else. I think sometimes people get um paralyzed because they get overwhelmed by trying to be up here when it's like, no, just start here. It's like everything else. which Just take some baby steps and head in the right direction.

22:42.91
Patty & Kathy
well I call that paralysis by analysis. You you look at it too much and then you get you do nothing.

22:46.92
Betsy Hamm
Yes.

22:50.29
Patty & Kathy
Right.

22:50.58
Betsy Hamm
Yep.

22:51.09
Patty & Kathy
Everything.

22:52.69
Betsy Hamm
Or you're like, I'll start next Sunday. And then it's Monday. and then you're like, oh, I mean, I'll start next Sunday. Like, just start tomorrow.

22:56.83
Patty & Kathy
Oh, wait minute.

22:57.08
Betsy Hamm
Like, it's it's okay.

22:57.23
Patty & Kathy
That was late for the month of Monday.

22:57.90
Betsy Hamm
Okay.

22:58.69
Patty & Kathy
You know, I just said that today. i was on the cruise. I gained three pounds on the cruise, which I was shocked that it was only three pounds. However, in the past, it would have been like, oh, I gained weight.

23:09.03
Patty & Kathy
I might as well just keep keep it going. until I might as well eat the donut today. Oh, I eat the donut.

23:13.16
Betsy Hamm
right

23:13.63
Patty & Kathy
What the heck? I might as well get fries for lunch. Oh, what the heck? I'll go get wings.

23:16.71
Betsy Hamm
Yep.

23:17.70
Patty & Kathy
Now I'm like, okay, I gained three pounds and I go back to the habits, like in giving wellness that make, made me successful because I know I'll re pivot and then go back, recalibrate. We were at, we were at an awards luncheon yesterday and I looked over, I was very proud of her. You know how you have the plate and then have the dessert in front of you. Then there's a lemon cheesecake. I'm like,

23:37.49
Patty & Kathy
Oh, I ate two bites. She only had two bites. I was like, good for you.

23:42.28
Betsy Hamm
That's good.

23:43.10
Patty & Kathy
but She was going like this. And so that kind of helped. If you have someone that followed you around smacking food out of your hand, that would be helpful too.

23:48.78
Betsy Hamm
It helps, yeah. She throws her trash on your plate.

23:50.30
Patty & Kathy
That's costly. So.

23:51.28
Betsy Hamm
Yeah, whatever.

23:52.64
Patty & Kathy
that's costly so

23:54.11
Betsy Hamm
That's hilarious. That's awesome. That's great. Well, so the last piece, which you kind of touched on, is if you're not dead, you're alive. You're celebrating birthdays. So talk to me about being ageless and what that means to you.

24:05.71
Patty & Kathy
Well, there again, so many times we say, oh I can't do that. I'm at this age, whether you're young, like, oh, I'm this age. and then when you get older, like, I can't do that. um I'm a perfect example. I'm 59.

24:16.83
Patty & Kathy
nine

24:18.21
Betsy Hamm
Oh!

24:18.32
Patty & Kathy
And I said it. 51. Stop it. And um I'm not dead. But just recently, I changed what I'm doing. yeah Step back down from my full-time job.

24:31.28
Patty & Kathy
still doing some, but opened an LLC to do some things, consulting, and even things with giving wellness and so forth and speaking that, you know, I've always wanted to do. And I would have probably said in the past, like, oh, I'm 59. I'm close to getting close retirement.

24:47.11
Patty & Kathy
No, I'm just um ageless is, you know, there's still opportunity and to change, not to be irresponsible. It's not like I said, I'm going to go cash in all my money and move to Tahiti, you know, without a plan, but to make reasonable choices to do things that I more want to do. The same you did with going to full-time at your businesses. Oh, absolutely. And I think if you are active, it's easier to be ageless.

25:10.51
Patty & Kathy
You know, you're feeling about yourself, your brain's working, you're firing on all cylinders.

25:10.59
Betsy Hamm
Sure.

25:14.87
Patty & Kathy
It's like, what can I do now? I don't want to slow down. I don't want to slow down. People at our age are retiring, really looking at their retirement plans and thinking, when can I cash out? When can I stop?

25:25.36
Patty & Kathy
I don't want to slow down. You know, I don't want to slow down. It's more making, being able to make choices of things. Maybe you want to do or smart choices, right? Smart choices that make sense.

25:33.16
Betsy Hamm
Right.

25:35.92
Patty & Kathy
And, you know, we're at a point where we know that we have gifts that we need to be sharing with others. And that includes, uh, from the workplace environment, from a health and wellness in place environment. So, and you know, it helps to go through life, having a sense of humor and being able to laugh at yourself. You said that earlier and others,

25:54.88
Patty & Kathy
And I think that's something we say we have a lot of differences, right but we also have the same basic attitude. Like don't sweat the small stuff, keep moving.

26:02.57
Betsy Hamm
Right.

26:03.92
Patty & Kathy
You can sit in it for a minute, but then move on, move on. It's okay to be down.

26:07.93
Betsy Hamm
Right.

26:08.84
Patty & Kathy
Just don't stay down. and have a friend And have a friend who says, if you don't stop, I'm going to punch you in the head.

26:10.97
Betsy Hamm
That's very true.

26:16.77
Patty & Kathy
that That's kind of what we say to each other.

26:18.22
Betsy Hamm
Violence kind of goes a long way, so that's fine.

26:21.58
Patty & Kathy
We won't allow each other to stay down Because we know we have, yeah, that we need to offer and find that accountability person in your life.

26:25.39
Betsy Hamm
I love that.

26:29.53
Patty & Kathy
I was going to say that's kind of ageless.

26:29.74
Betsy Hamm
Yep, i was going to say.

26:32.50
Patty & Kathy
I spent way too many years of my life trying to be with certain people or now, not that I you know don't respect or am cordial with people, but surrounding myself with those people who make me a better person and vice versa.

26:44.95
Patty & Kathy
I can remember younger in my career, i felt like, boy, I just didn't fit in. You know, I thought differently. I thought differently. I wanted to go about it differently. You know, I was a hard worker. And I'm like, gosh, am I in this alone?

26:56.98
Patty & Kathy
I would say to women out there, your tribe's still out there. Don't give up. Don't feel like you're still- Go find your people. Right. They're there and they're looking for you too.

27:06.98
Betsy Hamm
I love that. And I talk about circles all the time because I think you have to have a really good circle. And a lot of us have different circles, right? You might have one that's from like your neighborhood friends or, you know, high school friends or whoever it is, but it's having those circles of people who are going to cheer for you, maybe smack you up against the head if you need it, you know, when you're when you're thinking negatively or just need to get out of the the funk that you're in. So um I think that's so important. And it could be one person, it could be five people, but you have to have that tribe, that circle who is gonna be there to to support you, but also sometimes nudge you when you need that too. And be be authentic with you too, right? To have those authentic conversations.

27:43.75
Patty & Kathy
Right. know, one of my favorite words is perspective. And I think working the nonprofit, like at the Salvation Army, um that came into play. Things that I thought were the end of the world. And then you see people struggling more.

27:54.06
Betsy Hamm
Hmm.

27:55.60
Patty & Kathy
It's not that big a deal.

27:56.19
Betsy Hamm
Mm, yep.

27:57.38
Patty & Kathy
um You know, it's not life shattering. There certainly are life shattering experiences and circumstances, but most things we get ourselves all worked up about aren't that big a deal.

28:07.62
Betsy Hamm
Right, yep, no that's very good. So it's finding the right people to be around with and and finding something that you love to do. you know Kind of going back to the fact of saying that you guys are not anywhere close to retiring. It's because you love what you do and you found your purpose and you enjoy doing it. So it it doesn't probably feel like work when you get to choose what you're doing and you're making a difference. and working with each other and...

28:27.22
Patty & Kathy
Oh yeah. Sometimes it's really, really hard. It's really hard.

28:31.63
Betsy Hamm
might need a new coworker, whatever.

28:35.31
Patty & Kathy
You know, and again, I have two daughters. You have kids. We have four weddings in the next year between the two. She's got three. I only have one, but I have daughters 25 and 23 and I see, and see myself in them and a younger thing. But again, I want a model for them. and I know the struggle that's natural parts of life, but to say, Hey,

28:54.26
Patty & Kathy
This is not a big deal. This is not something to focus on and, you know, look at the big things and enjoy every moment of what you're doing. Right. And I think.

29:03.00
Betsy Hamm
I love that. Patty, what would be your big takeaway for your kids? Like if you could instill, I mean, by saying one thing is kind of hard, but like sort of one perspective for your kids and as they've, or that you try to instill since your kids are older, but just something that you hope that your kids take away.

29:14.17
Patty & Kathy
nice steve I just said to my kid to you, said, boy, it's a nice feeling when your kids are using your words and wisdom to you. And, and when one of the the phrases I would always say to them, and there's going to be moments in life, it's not if it's when, right, something's going to happen that you're not going to agree with.

29:24.26
Betsy Hamm
Nice.

29:37.82
Patty & Kathy
That's going to happen. You know, when things go wrong, just don't go wrong with them. Stay the course, right? Get back on course, get back.

29:43.65
Betsy Hamm
Right. That's

29:45.24
Patty & Kathy
It's going to have, the waves are going to hit the ship. And the thing I always said to my girls and still say is do what's right and smart. You know, there are certain things there's right and wrong and you always want to do what's right.

29:57.54
Patty & Kathy
The second thing is do what's smart. There's some things that aren't necessarily right or wrong, but it's stupid. So don't do stupid, do smart, smart and right.

30:09.70
Patty & Kathy
Do the right things for the right reason. Yes.

30:12.83
Betsy Hamm
There you go.

30:12.89
Patty & Kathy
So, And my girls will laugh, but that's kind of, I gave them seven things to look for in a boy since they were in fifth grade and they could, my one daughter would call me and go mom on a date and say, he ordered appetizers number five.

30:14.42
Betsy Hamm
There you go. Aw.

30:26.97
Patty & Kathy
So, you know, that's a whole story, but, um, you know, you have to do those things. And again, even keep it fun with your kids. If you're always harping and I know you and your kids, they call you every day. Um, well, adult kids, um,

30:36.74
Betsy Hamm
all

30:39.49
Patty & Kathy
You know, you're my chops. Yes. well for and i'll take it it's still um But I think that's, I think that speaks to her relationship with her kids.

30:43.79
Betsy Hamm
They thought of you at least.

30:47.67
Patty & Kathy
And that's what you want with your adult kids are fun. um But you, you build that all through their lives.

30:54.05
Betsy Hamm
Nice, that's great. right, I'm gonna end with a quick ah lightning round. So just, I did not tell you guys this ahead of time. I think you'll be fine knowing the two of your personalities.

31:00.68
Patty & Kathy
Oh,

31:01.88
Betsy Hamm
We'll see what you come up with.

31:02.85
Patty & Kathy
you know

31:04.53
Betsy Hamm
um One habit that keeps you authentic.

31:11.04
Patty & Kathy
I have the same routine every morning. I get up, I take a walk with the dogs and the husband. I mean, not necessarily in that order. Um, and I do a little devotional, we have breakfast and I kind of do a little quiet time and a devotional every morning that keeps me kind of focused on what my day is every morning.

31:28.84
Betsy Hamm
Nice.

31:29.26
Patty & Kathy
don't know. The first word that comes to my mind is fashion. I don't ever fashion.

31:34.75
Betsy Hamm
Perfect for you.

31:38.03
Patty & Kathy
I never want to look like a dud out there. I always want to put my best face forward.

31:44.76
Betsy Hamm
You do. You do a great job at that.

31:45.15
Patty & Kathy
There's a whole lot snow on this, but I'm not going to comment.

31:49.86
Betsy Hamm
All right. Favorite way to stay active outside the gym.

31:53.89
Patty & Kathy
walking Walking. I love to walk. I love to be outside and walking. I like to be with my animals. She has goats.

32:00.85
Betsy Hamm
Oh, wow.

32:01.86
Patty & Kathy
She has goats.

32:04.35
Betsy Hamm
That's fun.

32:05.57
Patty & Kathy
I save them from food.

32:05.96
Betsy Hamm
I like that. Oh, all right. A woman who inspires you with her ageless energy.

32:15.00
Patty & Kathy
It, I, this is Patty and I looked at we this question we heard yesterday. It's my grandmother. I loved her my whole life. She passed away a couple years ago. Ironically, she started a business, her own restaurant at age 58.

32:26.68
Patty & Kathy
And that kind of gave me, um, she wanted to do that her whole life. So when I was toying, whether what I was going to do, I'm like, this is what grandma did. And now that's what I'm going to do.

32:35.15
Betsy Hamm
Aww.

32:36.34
Patty & Kathy
I didn't know when she was alive, but I know now it was my mom and it wasn't a physical energy that she had, but it was a spiritual energy. There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't pray for our family and wish us the best.

32:48.88
Patty & Kathy
And I've kind of become a prayer warrior in the family as well.

32:49.46
Betsy Hamm
Aww. Aww.

32:52.34
Patty & Kathy
That's very important too.

32:54.19
Betsy Hamm
I love that.

32:54.45
Patty & Kathy
like

32:56.41
Betsy Hamm
What's one thing you'll never apologize for?

33:00.93
Patty & Kathy
My high heels. Again, it's back to fashion. I wear sensible shoes.

33:05.01
Betsy Hamm
Back to fashion. She's authentic.

33:07.09
Patty & Kathy
I know I wear sensible shoes. um My values and my defense of those values. Yeah.

33:13.14
Betsy Hamm
Oh, that's good.

33:14.73
Patty & Kathy
We're

33:14.94
Betsy Hamm
Wow. You guys are good at this on the, on the top quick hits. Um, fine.

33:19.11
Patty & Kathy
professionals, Betsy. Yes, we are.

33:23.28
Betsy Hamm
First word people would use to describe the real you. Or maybe I should ask you to describe each other one word. and Let's do that. One word to describe each other.

33:33.50
Patty & Kathy
We've already said it numerous times on this broadcast for Kathy. It's definitely authenticity. I'd say the same thing. And that's probably our common denominator. Yeah. Our values, but also being real. I mean, we can laugh. She can make fun of my shoes. I don't care.

33:48.69
Patty & Kathy
I can make fun of her eyelashes. I don't, she, she might care, but you know, that again, majoring on the majors, not the trivial, right?

33:59.41
Betsy Hamm
that Well, this is great, ladies. Thank you so much for being here. I appreciate that. And i love the authentic, active, ageless triple threat. And if people want to connect with you, where can they find you?

34:09.78
Patty & Kathy
They can find us, I guess, on LinkedIn. They can email us. um We do, you know, Giving Wellness. We work together on if you want to do that individually or as a group or a business. We've been speaking and sharing more. So if you need a motivational moment with your women's group, whatever, you can contact us, one or the other of us.

34:27.70
Patty & Kathy
PTCfitness.com is our website where you can also get to the Giving Wellness Forum.

34:28.17
Betsy Hamm
Awesome.

34:33.54
Betsy Hamm
Great, thank you. And we will link all that on the Loud and Lifted website as well. So we'll have that all available. So thank you so much for being here. I greatly appreciate it. Thank

34:40.65
Patty & Kathy
Thanks, Betsy. Betsy, it's been an honor.

34:43.65
Betsy Hamm
you.
